Description: DOWNTOWN. Steam Plant Square, which is actually located in a former steam plant, is a fascinating feat of restoration. Revealed pipes, conduits, and brick towers surround the various restaurants, shops, and offices now housed here. Some of the walls are decorated with paintings and other types of artwork, helping to make the square feel very cozy. The structure was once Washington Water and Power's Central Steam Plant and the downtown area's main source of heat.

The Flour Mill

This unique shopping center, which is home to such stores as Chocolate Apothecary, Kitchen Engine, The Bead Shoppe, Tobacco World, and Clinkerdaggers Restaurant, is located on the north bank of the Spokane River near the Spokane Arena. For more than 100 years, the Flour Mill was just as its name implied ­ a mill that ground wheat into flour. In 1974, as part of the city's preparation for the World's Fair, the mill was renovated to provide downtown space for eateries and retailers.
